Abstract

Objectives: This study measured and assessed radiation exposure and the image quality from the acquired image using aluminum filters in an aim to provide basic data for minimizing the exposure dose in X-ray test from dental Digital Radiography system and gaining the optimum image for diagnosis. Methods/Statistical Analysis: The measurement values of CNR and SNR were different depending on the image quality from the acquired image using aluminum filters. Findings: The reduction of entrance exposure dose showed 3.15-25.93 % difference according to the thickness of aluminum additional filters and the conditions of radiation exposure, but it showed consistent tendency regardless of the tube current (mAs) when the tube voltage goes up. In the radiation test for dental areas, the image quality was excellent when higher than 60 kV for the qualitative evaluation and in 0.1 mm according to the difference in added filtration. Improvements/ Applications: This result will be suggested for the data to expect the application of aluminum additional filters and decide the test methods in future dental diagnosis test. It is expected that it will be much utilized for the important basic data to reduce medical radiation exposure.

Abstract

Objectives: Generally, hospitals have a special condition easily causing environment pollution, cross infection, contact infection and droplet infection the patients, for it is the place for hospitalized patients who are strongly susceptible to disease and there is a high possibility of that diagnostic tools, hygienic materials in a hospital is infected by disease causing germs. Methods/Statistical Analysis: This study obtained a chest image with using medical radial rays by the thickness of disposable plastic packing paper, surgical instrument sterilization wraps for the prevention of hospital acquired infection from repetitive use of portable digital x radiation generator detector and compared and evaluated the definition of the images. Findings: According to qualitative analysis result analyzing the images by each types of disposable plastic, disposable plastic with air layer, sterilization sheet, 0.2 mm and 10 mm cotton materials, there was no statistical difference in the group, which did not use an infection prevention protecting product, in terms of contrast, occlusion detection rate and clarity of the boundary. Improvements/Applications: The study result suggests that it needs to actively use the materials for certain conditions to obtain optimal medical images and prevent hospital acquired image and to work on developing various protecting products for infection management.

Abstract

Background/Objectives: In order to protect thyroid gland and provide medical support in national catastrophe of radiation leakage, this study aimed to develop bismuth eco-friendly radiation shielding that does not contain lead. Methods/Statistical Analysis: It manufactured bismuth shielding and evaluated the characteristics of shielding medical radiation to protect thyroid gland and the quality of images. Findings: In medical radiation area, shielding characteristics of bismuth shielding was, 84% with 0.12 mm thickness, 92% with 0.25 mm thickness, and 96% with 0.5 mm thickness, showing rising efficiency as the thickness increased. In the images that used bismuth shielding of 0.12 mm thickness, image contrast was 4.9±0.4, clarity of boundaries 4.8±0.3, and lesion detection rate 4.8±0.3, showing similar image quality to the images obtained without shielding. In the images with bismuth shielding of 0.25mm thickness, image contrast was 3.0±0.1, clarity of boundaries 3.3±0.2, and lesion detection rate 3.1±0.1, and in the images with bismuth shielding of 0.5 mm thickness, image contrast was 2.9±0.1, clarity of boundaries 3.1±0.2, and lesion detection rate was 3.0±0.1. Improvements/Applications: Based on these results, in order to obtain the optimal medical images and reduce exposure dose of medical radiation, it is recommended to develop environment-friendly and light bismuth shielding with proper shielding capability.
